The Archdiocese of Glasgow is divided into nine deaneries covering 99 parishes in the West of Scotland. The City of Glasgow is the main population centre along with the ancient town of Dumbarton in the West and the New Town of Cumbernauld in the East. The Archdiocese extends to Bearsden and Milngavie in the North and all the way to Balloch and Garelochhead in the west.
The Archbishop of Glasgow is the Most Reverend Mario Joseph Conti. He was appointed Archbishop of Glasgow by His Holiness Pope John Paul II on January 15th 2002 and took possession of the Archdiocese on Friday 22nd February 2002 in Saint Andrew’s Cathedral, Glasgow. Pope John Paul II bestowed the Pallium on Archbishop Conti on 29th June 2004.
In the latest statistics the Archdiocese had: 97 parishes, 225 priests in the Archdiocese, 12 religious communities of men, and 61 religious communities of women. There were 2,223 baptisms, and 464 marriages. The estimated weekly Mass attendance was 47,827. The estimated Catholic population in the Archdiocese was 202,181.
