Archbishop Vincent Nichols called for all Catholics to take up the Pope’s call to strive for holiness in their lives at the service of others in his homily at the Mass of Thanksgiving on the anniversary of Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to the United Kingdom.
To commemorate the first anniversary of the visit of His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI to the United Kingdom and the Beatification of Blessed John Henry Newman, the Bishops of England and Wales celebrated a Mass of Thanksgiving at Westminster Cathedral on Sunday 18 September at 3pm.
On Home Mission Sunday we pray for the work of evangelisation in our countries and reflect on our response to the Lord’s invitation to share our faith. The theme this year is “Fresh Wind In Our Sails” which is what the Holy Father is reported to have said that his visit to the UK gave him.
